Collection of work I completed during my course. The main focus of my pieces from the course was music. Each piece reflects the representation, sound or feelings behind music, with a few other pieces that were not related to the focus subject.

The Feeling, Water Colours, 9 x 6  inches

This was my first attempt at watercolours.  The arrangement and fading of colours are to imitate the excitement, amazement and happiness felt when at a concert. The colours then fade to represent the post-concert depression and sadness.

Construction, Glass, 15 x 14 x 1/4 inches

an abstract version of mainstream instruments and music equipment. Stringers were used to replicate the 5 bars that are used in written sheet music with the colour coordinated frit in between representing the sound coming from the instrument. The “microphone” is in the foreground because in music the vocals are heard and stand out the most that’s why the representation of sound coming form the microphone was done in tac fuse to give it a 3D effect as it stands out over the other “sounds” from the “drum” and “guitar”. In between the stringers that come out of the “drum” I used frit that disappeared leaving a slightly green sparkle in its place to show how the drums are often in the very “back” of the music and like the green sparkle can be hard to miss if you’re not looking/listening carefully.

Mixtape, Cassette Tape, 20 x 24 inches

this piece is a self-portrait done entirely from cassette tape it is to represent how when cassette were more popular they were like a self-portrait of an individual’s music taste and it was the first piece of music storing/ playing material where an individual could completely customize to their own liking.

Deep Purple Haze, Glass, 8 x 8 x 3 inches

A small square bowl, made with system 96 glass. The center square is an iridescent purple with a lattice pattern in purple stringers, tack fused on top for texture. The edges are done with purple shards and a purple frit tack fused on to a white sheet of glass.

Coffee Alone, India Ink, 8 x 8 inches

An Indian ink painting on watercolour paper. This piece was for an entry in "the Big Picture Art Project" and won the "Strathmore Prize" for the month of February. After the Indian ink was dried areas and shapes were outlined in black or painted over in white to create an image.
